Arthur Edwin Sims

Sims, Arthur Edwin is a native of Newport, of whom his town has reason to be justly proud. Although engaged in a busy commercial life (being proprietor of the firm of Sims and Son, printers and stationers) his leisure time is enthusiastically devoted to the art of music for which he is doing splendid work in his native town. Mr. Sims is recognised as a most accomplished organist; has studied for some time under Mr. George Riseley, the celebrated Bristol organist. In 1905, after a searching examination at the Royal Academy of Music, London, was awarded the diploma of licentiate of that institution (L.R.A.M.) Was for several years organist at Commercial road Baptist Church, which post he relinquished upon the erection of the magnificent organ at the Great Central Hall, where he now holds the position of organist and choirmaster. After acting as accompanist to the Newport Choral Society for seven years, he was. in 1905, appointed honorary conductor of that society, which, under his direction, has more than maintained its reputation as one of the leading musical organisations in the town.
